Heyho!
It's the third day I'm in Melbourne and what I notice the most is how friendly everybody is here. The moment you walk in a store, people will like "Hello, how are you?" and usually responded by "Hi, I'm good, thank you. How are you?". Sometimes the conversation stops there but there is moment where it goes as far as "Yeah, so where have you been this afternoon?" or "So, what do you have for lunch?".
For me it's kinda strange and funny. I've lived in Indonesia and Singapore and people didn't do that. Here, people genuinely want to know about your day and talk to you, they greet you and sometimes compliment you, while in Indonesia you better be careful if stranger approaches you and get you involved in any sort of conversation, they might up to some pick pocketing or selling some insurance to you. But it's different here, life is in a slower pace rather than in Indonesia or Singapore. People enjoy walking at the park, sitting under the sun, reading at the library or enjoying street art performances, they really do stop and smell the flower. And I like that!! So I'm looking forward to get in touch with the friendliness of people here.
Today we open a bank account for me and have some nice Japanese lunch nearby at Shyun. We ordered Sukiyaki Don, Teriyaki Chicken Udon and Takoyaki. All the meals are very delicious and in a generous portion. Sukiyaki don is so delicious and eating the udon is like bouncing on a happy land, the udon is at the perfect chewiness and the amount of teriyaki chicken is real satisfaction. Takoyaki is crunchy on the outside and soft on the inside.
After running errands for Cece's working site, next stop will be dinner at Nam Loong, we order Vegetable Salted Egg and Century Egg Congee, Fritters and Xiao Lung Bao. The congee is superb, it's refreshing with a hint of salted egg. Xiao lung bao is okay, not a big fan of the fritters as it is quite hard to chew and oily.
Not much for today. Boohbye!
Naomi
