Naomi WHV - Extremely Friendly People

Heyho!

It's the third day I'm in Melbourne and what I notice the most is how friendly everybody is here. The moment you walk in a store, people will like "Hello, how are you?" and usually responded by "Hi, I'm good, thank you. How are you?". Sometimes the conversation stops there but there is moment where it goes as far as "Yeah, so where have you been this afternoon?" or "So, what do you have for lunch?".

For me it's kinda strange and funny. I've lived in Indonesia and Singapore and people didn't do that. Here, people genuinely want to know about your day and talk to you, they greet you and sometimes compliment you, while in Indonesia you better be careful if stranger approaches you and get you involved in any sort of conversation, they might up to some pick pocketing or selling some insurance to you. But it's different here, life is in a slower pace rather than in Indonesia or Singapore. People enjoy walking at the park, sitting under the sun, reading at the library or enjoying street art performances, they really do stop and smell the flower. And I like that!! So I'm looking forward to get in touch with the friendliness of people here.

Today we open a bank account for me and have some nice Japanese lunch nearby at Shyun. We ordered Sukiyaki Don, Teriyaki Chicken Udon and Takoyaki. All the meals are very delicious and in a generous portion. Sukiyaki don is so delicious and eating the udon is like bouncing on a happy land, the udon is at the perfect chewiness and the amount of teriyaki chicken is real satisfaction. Takoyaki is crunchy on the outside and soft on the inside.

After running errands for Cece's working site, next stop will be dinner at Nam Loong, we order Vegetable Salted Egg and Century Egg Congee, Fritters and Xiao Lung Bao. The congee is superb, it's refreshing with a hint of salted egg. Xiao lung bao is okay, not a big fan of the fritters as it is quite hard to chew and oily.

Not much for today. Boohbye!

Naomi WHV - Freezing Summer

Heyho!

Second dayyy!! The day started with following Cece around. Hahaha!! I really have no intention to start work immediately, in fact I'm thinking of taking some short courses as well, so in a meantime I'll enjoy my days (or weeks) here playing tourists. And now let me shout the deepest scream from my heart.... IT'S FREEEEEZZZZZZIIIIIIIINGGGGGGG.....!!!!

Before I came to Melbourne, Cece said that it will be summer where the weather is very hot and you'll be drench in sweat, sooo.... I've packed 27kg luggage of summer clothes, you know those thin tops, tees, tank tops and shorts?! Yeah I brought that. Turned out the weather is around 15-20 degree Celsius at day and might get lower on the night. Not to mention the wind. And on top of that, apparently I'm the only one in this whole country that feel cold piercing through my bones and souls. Up until now (yeah..yeah.. I write this entry on the 25th January 2017 as you may know is the same date I write my previous entry as well, I just couldn't stand the idea of a day missing in writing this blog. I surely will try harder to write everyday so I won't cheat the date anymore, but just so you know all the updates dated 17th January 2017 to 25th January 2017 is written on the same day. I kept a written journal on my notes and phone so I never missed a moment), back to the main topic, up until now every single day, before we head out from home I'll check the weather prediction and step to the balcony to feel the weather in order to decide what I should wear on that day. But really, people whom I met here were so nice to me and said that it's just my body doesn't get used to the weather, it may take a while to adjust and once I adapt better I won't feel crazily cold anymore. So, I'm waiting for you my dear body, please adapt quickly, sincerely...my shaking bones and cold fingers.

Oh and before I forget, here's sneak on the place we have our lunch, Alimentari on Smith Street. We had Farro Salad and Hi Top Ham Sandwich and of course cappuccino and latte. I'm surprised on the taste of farro and liked it immediately, the pesto was refreshing and the texture was similar to rice or maybe barley but had a kinda nutty taste to it.

The day was filled with Cece's 4 meetings and me following around meeting new people and freezing. It might bore you all so...

Boohbye!

Naomi WHV - First day in Melbourne

Heyho!

I'm in Melbourne!!!! It's summer here, 38 degree Celsius which I have to tell you kinda similar to the weather in Jakarta. Everything went smoothly, tough the queue to the immigration desk and the baggage claim was super long.

Some little insight, I have a sister (later will be acknowledged as Cece) lives in Melbourne and she picked me up at the airport. The first destination was to her working site followed by going to Chadstone, a shopping centre located quite close to our place.

First meal in Melbourne here was at Axil Coffee Roasters and it was sooo good..!! I have the Philly steak sandwich and Cece had some soft shelled crab burger, we ordered cappuccino and latte for each of us.

To end the day, I just got a new Melbourne phone number then head home. Some things you might want to fix first once you touch down in Australia for WHV are a new sim card, open a bank account, get insurance and get a Tax File Number if you want to get a job.

So that's it for now. Boohbye!

*alright, to be honest I just write this entry today, 25th January 2017. I've convinced myself to write everyday but things just don't get along according to plan. Heee...! So if you read the entry date to 17th January 2017, you don't see wrong, I genuinely check on Google on how to change the date entry on blogspot. HAHAHA!!

Hello & WHV

Heyho!
It's been ages since my first entry and honestly I forget about this blog. Short story, I've applied for Working Holiday Visa (WHV) to Australia and the visa has been granted nearly a year ago and I've decided to embark my journey to Melbourne on 16th January 2017. I've been thinking how to keep in touch with my friends in Indonesia while sharing my experiences and documenting everything for one day I'll want to take a look at it again. Two things come to mind were writing a blog or make a vlog and upload it to Youtube just like what all the "it" people do. But then again, I'm so terrible at any technology, so here I am writing, typing on my phone in less than 12hours before my flight to Melbourne.

Welcome!

Hello everybody!

Welcome to my first weird blog entry! To begin with let me introduce myself, I am Naomi, a fashion designer, a food lover, nails addict, makeup and skin care junkie, yoga practitioner (eventough I'm hopeless on it), laughter master and a sucker for everything polkadot (but only the asymmetrical one)!

I think those summerize what you'll find on my blog. So...

Stay weird!

Much love,

Naomi
